Firstly I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, I'm feeling very thankful and focusing on having a grateful attitude. Lets all focus on what we have to be thankful for, and share that with the people in our lives. Appreciate, love and focus on good things...
I've been back painting since yesterday. It was tricky to get back to it, after a few days not creating to enjoy the Christmas holidays and wanting more time to relax. I'm glad and motivated to get back to a more disciplined routine.
Here is a piece I've been working on for a while, oil on canvas. A 3D technical study of a photo reference I took with some winter squash. I'm enjoying learning and developing my technique to create shape and also in warm and cool colour theory. I have changed the background to a bright, pumpkin like fleshly orange. It is originally brown paper in my photography. Inspired by another piece I have created the warm bright orange tones are in progress and I am making up highlights and shadows.
None of this is nearly finished, I think perhaps half way to the vision I have of it completed. A long study where my my aim is to develop my skills and learn.

I also have a couple of other pieces in the background, a textural piece and some other paintings. A van gogh inspired piece...

Thank you to those who bought paintings or prints from me recently!

I am nervous and i'm excited to start in the new year, a beautiful and very tricky photo reference. I feel some composition adjustments are needed to be made in centering this, also some imagination in working with area's of the photo which aren't in focus. The detail of the photo is difficult especially when zooming into as I usually do on a larger scale. I'm glad to have a challenge that pushes me to attempt something complex... and in creating/capturing something so beautiful which is now only in photo and memory.

Sincerely,
Gemma Bradshaw
