I finished painting the Pheasant

I'm glad to have been asked to paint this. It felt really special to create a painting for my dad. I used my own photo reference, A photo of a ring knecked pheasant which I saw in my dads village. It's been a really great challenge and as with the paitnings I've been asked to make as commission so far, something I wouldn't choose but have learnt a lot from. I have enjoyed learning how to create the tricky fine detail work of layering oil paint to create the grass and feathers. The process was started a long time ago, and the painting began in May. I'm glad to have this finished and can't wait to varnish, frame and see it displayed at my dads home in the village where this beautiful bird roamed. With oil paintings, especially with realism, it takes time to create and now I will be waiting for the oil paint to dry before I can varnish it.

Stay warm this winter, take care and be healthy, happy and loving.

April blog post

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter. I spent time with family and friends, enjoying live music and gardening whilst still doing art too....
