Lemon oil painting 7x9inch framed with white mount
Oil painting made using High quality pigment oil colour paints. Painting created using oil colour painting mediums, non-toxic dilutant and thinner. Canvas board is 7"x5" varnished firstly when touch dry with a retouching varnish for oil painting. This protects the painting while allowing the painting to 'breathe' and dry fully. This I felt an important part of the finishing of this painting due to preserving the cleanness of the bold light background that surrounds the lemon. After fully dried till there wasn't even a slight sticky feeling a final quality dammar varnish (varnish specifically for oil paint) was applied in thin layers. Then left till completely dry before framing. Frame is an ornate style gun-metal grey colour that has beautiful detail with added mount board so the painting has a gap between the perspex sheet. With the frame it is 9"x7" and has been signed in the bottom right corner which can be seen in the pictures. I created the painting using the "fat over lean" method in a realist style as a still life study of a large Italian organic lemon. Paint was firstly added well diluted and thinly applied, after which a second layer of oil colour with the painting medium linseed oil went on. Work on the round shape of the fruit with vibrant colour and shadow/initial highlights was made. After which some dry brush technique was used, till the last details which are applied slightly thinner. Layer upon layer left to dry slightly before the next, and paint kept smooth with some texture in areas of detail for example on the lemon there are little dots in various ranges of shades from slightly dark to light which make the lemon look realistic. Lastly the brightest highlights where added and some details touched at where the painting has 3D shape enhancing realism.
