Sedimentary Rocks 6x9inch Abstract Acrylic Painting In Black Frame. Frame is sleek black with glass and a stand. The painting has been created using quality acrylic paints on gesso primed 250gsm canvas textured paper. Painting is protected with satin varnish and signed on the back with date and small description. This is an abstract painting of sedimentary rocks, with three main colours for three kinds of rock. I was inspired by the different kinds of sedimentary rocks. I noticed when looking at acrylic colour mixes made previously for other work these colours have a likeness to colours found naturally on earth. I watched a documentary of an artist who travelled around using earth and meteorites to make works of art. Her name was Ulrike Arnold and the programme is called Dialogue Earth. I also have seen artwork with paint in different colours applied thickly and pulled across. In making this I pulled different colours of acrylic paint across the surface with a pallet knife after mixing in a pallet, creating fluid looking layers. In the work I have created I feel that the paint applied was the many layers of rock that can be seen in the earth. The layers created inspired by imagined images of iron ore, sandstone and shale that I have seen. I think these natural colours are a beautiful part of the earth and a wonderful sight. I hope that this painting is viewed giving a feeling like the same awe I have of the beauty of those sedimentary rocks colours, textures and patterns. I hope that joy is felt, that an appreciation for art and the earth is thought of while inspiring others to see the same beauty in sedimentary rock and abstract painting.
